Section 01
Start with the course, not the ranking
Two universities can offer degrees with the same name and teach very different things. Before you compare rankings, open the course handbook and look at the subjects you will actually study each year.
1. Read the subject list
Check the core subjects, the electives and whether there is a work placement or final project. These shape the skills you graduate with.
2. Check the entry requirements
Note the academic results and English test scores the course asks for, and whether your previous studies are recognised.
3. Look at how the course is taught
Class sizes, practical work and assessment styles differ. Some students thrive on group projects; others prefer exams.
Section 02
Weigh location, cost and life after graduation
Where you study affects your living costs, your part-time work options and the industries close by. A smaller city can be friendlier on your budget, while a large city may offer more internships.
- Total cost: add tuition, accommodation, health cover and day-to-day living.
- Work rights: check how many hours students may work during term.
- Career links: ask which employers the faculty works with.
Your counsellor can help you compare two or three shortlisted universities side by side.
