Legal definition & framework
A schooling visa is a government-issued study permit that lets foreign minor students (aged 6 to 18) enrol in registered primary, intermediate or secondary schools. Unlike adult visas, schooling visas require strict welfare and accommodation arrangements, and allow eligible parents or legal guardians to come along on a guardian visa.

Finishing ATAR, NCEA Level 3 or A-Levels usually allows direct entry into bachelor’s degrees, without a separate foundation year.

No work rights. The guardian is there to look after the child’s welfare, housing and supervision.

Must live with the student. If the guardian leaves New Zealand, the student needs approved welfare arrangements to stay.
Work constraint
The parent cannot work or study in the UK on this visa.
Employment constraint

Avoid common refusals and delays with these preparation steps.
High commissions look for a clear source of money. Avoid sudden large deposits, and keep savings and business records steady for at least six months before applying.
Make sure the child’s birth certificate matches the parents’ passports letter for letter, including middle names. Any difference should be explained in a notarised affidavit.
A chartered accountant’s net worth report, with three years of income tax returns, shows a steady and lasting income.
Australian and New Zealand schools start in late January or early February; Malaysian and British schools in August or September. Start school applications about nine months before.
When a parent applies as guardian, show living funds for both the student and the parent, and that family members staying in Bangladesh are provided for.
